Applying to EOF at RU-N
Am I Eligible?
To participate in the EOF program at Rutgers University-Newark, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Demonstrate an educationally and economically disadvantaged background
- Be a New Jersey resident for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the first semester of Rutgers enrollment
- Graduate from high school or receive the equivalent of a high school diploma by the time you register at Rutgers
- File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application
- Fall within the financial criteria set by the State of New Jersey
- Complete the EOF application (detailed below) and financial verification process by the required deadlines
How do I Apply?

- Apply for undergraduate admission to Rutgers University – Newark by December 1st. The application fee is deferred when you indicate you are potentially eligible for EOF on the application. Undergraduate Admissions Application
- Submit the supplemental EOF application through “my enrollment ” on your my rutgers portal by December 1st. The information on the EOF application is used to make a preliminary determination of your eligibility for the EOF program. If you did not indicate interest in applying to EOF when you submitted your undergraduate admissions application, you can submit this alternate application.
- Apply for Financial Aid by December 1st. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you are U.S. citizen or permanent resident or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) if you are a NJ DREAMer. You will need to first crate a Federal Student Aid ID, which allows you to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information.

Please read carefully to ensure you are handing in the appropriate documentation. Keep in mind, funding is not guaranteed and is dependent on eligibility and availability of funds at RU-N.
- Apply for Financial Aid. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you are U.S. citizen or permanent resident or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) if you are a NJ DREAMer.
- Submit the EOF Application by deadline below. Note: You must be admitted to Rutgers to apply. Spring 2024 Application Deadline is January 19th.
- For prior EOF students only: Submit your Student Transfer Form from your previous school along with your student application above “EOF Transfer Student Application”.
- For non-EOF transfer students only: Submit 2 years of tax returns along with your student application for your parents (if dependent) or you (if independent). We ask for tax returns from 2 years prior and 3 years prior to determine pre-eligibility. (i.e. if you are applying in 2021, you need tax returns for 2018 & 2019) along with your student application above “Non-EOF Transfer Student Application”.
- Submit EOF Verification Documents: Once your EOF application is forwarded to the financial aid office, they will populate financial documents on your My Rutgers Portal that you must submit in order to be confirmed EOF Eligible. Please adhere to deadline dates above.
- Attend New EOF Student Orientation: Held in September for fall admits and in January for spring admits.

If you are a current Rutgers student who has never received EOF funding, you can follow the instructions below to apply to the EOF Program. Students in their last two semesters of their undergraduate degree are not eligible to apply. Keep in mind, funding is not guaranteed and is dependent on eligibility and availability of funds at RU-N.
- Apply for Financial Aid. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you are U.S. citizen or permanent resident or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) if you are a NJ DREAMer.
- Submit EOF Application by deadline below.
- Submit 2 years of tax returns along with your student application. We ask for tax returns from 2 years prior and 3 years prior to determine pre-eligibility (i.e. if you are applying in 2021, you need tax returns for 2018 & 2019).
